Grand spires
and red brick modernism were once the hallmarks of the academy. In an
educational environment that now fully embraces corporate values and
the marketplace the supporting architecture also needs also to promote
brand values - mission statements are made material.
The reconfiguration
of the London College of Printing, early this century, was the first
educational project to embrace the potential of a visionary and creative
building and remodelling programme. Here the institution's logo was
embedded into the fabric of the building. The building design makes
reference to current industry technology in bold creative terms and
promotes its identity and heritage in material form.
